WEEK 05 Hello, and welcome to another blog about family relations. I am not the best person to talk about family things because I do not have one of my very own yet. However, today’s topic is focusing on relationships and how they work. For getting into context, I need to talk a little bit about my relationship background. I am from Peru, and it is a country where the dating culture is very different than the American culture. Peruvians begin to date a person, and after the second date, they start to exclusively date that one person. Now, this does not mean that they are boyfriend and girlfriend, but it does mean that they will not date another person. After more dates, Peruvians will finally become boyfriend and girlfriend. Anyways, after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and not dating anyone for more than two years, I was more than ready to begin dating or that is what I thought. I jumped into a relationship as soon as I could, and I g...

DIFFERENCE IN GENDER Wow! It has been four weeks already since I started writing these blogs. It has been such a great experience. I have learned no many things from Brother Williams. This week I have learned a lot about the differences in genders. During this week, I came to the conclusion that society is a little bit tougher with boys than girls. Since a very young age, if a girl is showing a personality not very feminine, she might be called a "tomboy". This is interesting to me because when I was listening to Brother Williams on this, I had no idea about what "tomboy" meant. I decided to look at the translation to Spanish. In Spanish, "tomboy" is translated as "chica poco feminine," which means a girl that isn’t feminine. Now, since in our class we have a variety of students around the country and world, some girls would express that the word "tomboy" was not something bad, instead, they liked it because they felt identi...

How can one stay ahead? This year in the United States, there was a big topic of building a wall to prevent people who are not citizens coming into the country. Although this is a very widely known topic however, how much do you know on the topic? Many of these people come to this country in order to earn more money to support their families back home. Often living in very poor conditions here to ensure their family can get as much money as possible. This week in my Family class we learned a bit more on this matter. Many people are just searching for a better life for their children they seek the United States not to be rich but to have a better living standard overall. A specific example of this we learned in our class is with some Mexican families. Often these families need to contact people referred to as “Coyotes”. These people charge undocumented people four thousand dollars to help sneak them into the U.S border. I learned from my teacher typically the father is the one to f...

My extended Family Relations, and cool thoughts This week in my class I learned about the different types of relations. They are something call theories. Theories are attempts to explain a phenomenon. Now, there are generally misinterpretations the word phenomenon, many people think it means something obscure happening like aliens. However, it simply means that that something has taken place like putting on shoes in the morning. We use theories to explain phenomenons inside of a family structure there are many different theories such as conflict, change, system, and symbolic. To begin with a conflict theory is not as bad as it sounds, it is influencing one to another by co-existing and interacting. I personally can relate to this theory as my family has exemplified this one. Conflict theory allows couples to learn how to live with one another. It is very crucial that both partners are working towards adapting to live with one another because if one lacks on this it can d...

Week 01 This week, I had so many things to share with you all. First of all, I am having such a good time in my "Marriage and Family" class. My teacher, Brother Williams is very interesting to listen to and he has taught me many things! We learned about how hard it was in the past to get a divorce. If you ever wanted to get a divorce in the 1800's-1900's you would go to court, and the judge would ask for proof for a divorce. Then after providing all of the proof, the judge would decide if he granted the divorce or not. Fun fact, Indiana was the first state that allowed divorce in the 1850s thus giving it the nickname of "the new Sodom." For reference, Sodom was a biblical city famous for sin and was eventually destroyed. After this, little by little, all the states made divorce legal. South Carolina was the last state in declared divorce legal in 1949. Even after the legalization of divorce, most of the newspapers started to blame women because o...
