DIFFERENCE IN GENDER
Wow! It has been four weeks already since I started writing these
blogs. It has been such a great experience. I have learned no many things from
Brother Williams. This week I have learned a lot about the differences in
genders. During this week, I came to the conclusion that society is a little
bit tougher with boys than girls.
Since a very young age, if a girl is showing a personality not
very feminine, she might be called a "tomboy". This is interesting to
me because when I was listening to Brother Williams on this, I had no idea
about what "tomboy" meant. I decided to look at the translation to
Spanish. In Spanish, "tomboy" is translated as "chica poco
feminine," which means a girl that isn’t feminine. Now, since in our class
we have a variety of students around the country and world, some girls would
express that the word "tomboy" was not something bad, instead, they
liked it because they felt identified with it. In a similar male scenario, if
thy shows a personality not very masculinity what is most likely to happen is
that they are going to start to be called ‘gay’. In a negative connotation,
‘gay’ goes with a definition way different than tomboy. In scenarios like this,
such as when bullies use names like this, it can seem that society is tougher
with boys than girls.
Men and women are different, and we can prove it since they start
choosing toys or ways to play. Brother Williams shared some cool stories about
this. He said that he has sons and daughters. If I am not wrong, he had a
couple boys and then a couple girls. He told us that when his sons were
playing, they were doing it in a competitive and aggressive way. They liked to
play with car toys and race against each other, and eventually crash and stuffs
like that. On the other hand, one of his daughters was trying to play with
them. She usually got the less favorite car, a Volkswagen, but instead of
racing against them and trying to win, she enjoyed to get some sort of tissue
and put the car in her arms like if it would be a baby. She used to go around
the house and be like "shhhhhhh it is sleeping." I personally thought
that it was the cutest thing. Examples like this sometimes shows that boys have
a very different way to see things, as do girls.
There is also a study that girls use to talk faster than boys.
They have verbal skills. Boys usually are more hyper-focused. Speaking as a
boy, if you have ever heard that a boy cannot multi-task, they are usually
right. This is explained because boys have more gray matter in their brains
than girls. Gray matter is like the storage unit in our head. This is why they
are hyper-focused, so they can fill all that storage in their brain. On the
other hand, girls have more white matter than boys. The white matter affects
learning, so yes, girls can learn faster.
After all of this, what did I learn? Yes, boys are different than
girls, but this is for a greater purpose. In a heterosexual marriage, since men
and women are different, they complement each other in a good way. Men might
take care of the family and it will protect them because they are a little more
aggressive than women. On the other side, women might take care of the family
with all those care skills. These are only some of the many differences between
men and women.
